A process runs its course: people arrive, contribute, and a document is produced. Months later, the problem we attempted to address may very well sit where it was, better described but no nearer to moving. Usually the explanation offered is thin turnout, or a plan that needed more support.

The harder explanation can oftentimes be found upstream. By the time a room is convened, the framing has already narrowed what the room can decide: which question is on the table, whose constraints are visible, what the current arrangement is equipped to reward. The outcome follows from that, long before anyone speaks.

Disengagement often reads the same way. Where people who are concerned have no visible way to act, stepping back is a reasonable response, not a failure of will. Treated as a signal, it points to where a system has stopped offering a way in.

Path:OS works at that upstream point. Before anything is proposed, we map what holds a problem in place, what the current arrangement makes easy or costly, and what a realistic path through it would ask of the people involved. We listen and diagnose first, and act second. The measure of the work is whether the people we worked with can act more effectively once we are gone.
